The Woman Who Conceived The Pill

Sarah Hickingbottom

Something Underground

It’s 1918, and a woman who adores men is dreaming of ‘a pill taken like aspirin’ to free women sexually and choose when to have children. But contraception is illegal in the USA and science doesn’t have the knowledge. What’s a girl to do? Battle the establishment, of course! And hire scientists! Oh and don’t forget to seduce men like HG Wells! Protest, tragedy, laughter, love and pills entwine to craft a compelling solo show spanning Mrs Sanger’s extraordinary life.
